TO THE HEART OF IT

"This one time I went in for an ultrasound when I was pregnant with Eve, the doctor was having trouble hearing a heartbeat! I was scared shitless until we realized the reason! She was kicking to the beat of MY damn heart! This kid had rhythm before she was f#%&in' born!" - Sheila Scott
Eve grew up in The Bronx, NY listening to any and all music that was on in her home. Early childhood (70s-80s), mom was always blasting the radio hits including Oldies, R&B/Soul, Pop, Disco, and soft rock. Eve sang and danced along to everything before she could walk. Donna Summer, Barbara Streisand, Stevie Wonder, etc.
As she grew up with mom, pop artists like Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna and Prince really got her attention and stirred her desire to perform. At Dad's house, it was more Country and Classical music, and wholesome shows like The Lawrence Welch Show which she was mesmerized by!
Music blasting from her older brothers' rooms and cars were a great mix too. Brother Stephen (12 years older) was into bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Aerosmith, Talking Heads, and Queen while brother Jimmy (11 years older) exposed her more to Dance/Rap including Herbie Hancock and Run DMC. As an 80's preteen in The Bronx, she was getting more drawn towards rap like Beastie Boys, LL Cool J and popular Dance and Latin Freestyle artists such as Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Exposé and Taylor Dayne.
It wasn't until 1986 that something huge happened. She saw Steven Tyler and Joe Perry in Run DMC's "Walk This Way" video, and that was the beginning of the end! Blown away by Tyler and Perry, she starting buying Aerosmith and other rock band cassettes. From there, it just continued to popular rock bands like Guns N' Roses, Skid Row, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue and Poison. These were the core rock bands at age 15 that made her want to get a guitar and start writing songs. Bass guitar was actually her first choice, but the acoustic was cheaper!
She names Sebastian Bach, Steven Tyler, Axl Rose, Geoff Tate, Jon Bon Jovi, Ann Wilson, Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, and Linda Perry (4 Non Blondes) as some of her top vocal influences. For guitar, her cream of the crop list includes Slash, James Hetfield, Nuno Bettencourt, Zakk Wylde, SRV and Seattle's own, Tony Abreu, who she's been taking guitar lessons from since early 2018.
Eve's self-taught at guitar, bass, keys, drums and whatever instrument she can get her hands on since a very young age. Having played guitar since the age of 15 with only a handful of official lessons, she would learn how to play favorite songs by ear by pausing and rewinding cassette tapes. She just wanted to play songs and didn't really enjoy learning about theory or playing scales. Over the years playing basic power chords and writing the same old songs, she became bored and uninspired with her own playing. Yet she was constantly ignited by other players! She finally decided the only way to play like that is to take guitar seriously, and she is now determined to soak up every bit of guitar knowledge and experience she can!
